I’ve got two children, they’re amazing kids and I love putting them in the buggy and pushing them around and racing it through the supermarket; my kids love that too. However, this latest invention could be trying to take all that fun away from us, as it does all the pushing and driving on its own. For just $2,750, the Smartbe developed hands-free smart stroller will push its self up hills, through the supermarket, it’ll even keep up the pace while you go for a jog alongside your child. In theory, it’s a nice idea, but I wouldn’t trust it with my child’s life for even a second.
Of course, this is a futuristic bit of kit, so it’s more than just a motor and a smart camera. The Smartbe offers up a rocker feature to help put the child to sleep, and even a bottle warmer for those “feed me!” moments. It can play music, has lights, webcam, microphone and all kinds of stuff; it’s damn near a Tesla for babies.
‘I know how uncomfortable it is to push an ordinary stroller through snow in Manhattan, up hills in San Francisco, or for a jog along the path through the heat and humidity of Miami,’ Guillermo Morro CEO and founder of Smartbe told SFGate. ‘So, I set out to design a better stroller, one that combines all the greatest technology to give parents and babies a better experience.’
It’s just a concept at the moment, with the team hitting Indiegogo with a goal of $80,000. It’s a pretty cooler stroller, with some great technology and I can see where they’re coming from with their ideas, but alas, it’s not something I would feel a need for personally. Fortunately, they’ve had the sense to release a model that isn’t self-propelling, and that will be just $399, and it’ll still retain some of the cool extra gadgets.
