Serious Engine Gets Major Overhaul for Serious Sam 4

We still don’t know much about Serious Sam 4, as Croteam has only just begun writing the game’s story towards the end of 2015. However, the developers have decided to share a few things regarding the game’s engine and main features in order to allow us to get a better idea of what to expect from the final product. Sources indicate that the Serious Engine has received some impressive upgrades, which means that Serious Sam 4 will benefit from advanced features such as motion capture and photogrammetry. As for the story, it appears that it will be set before the events of Serious Sam 3, so it should definitely prove interesting.

Another thing worth pointing out is that the game will use some form of copy protection, maybe even something along the lines of the immortal scorpion that was implemented in Serious Sam 3. Just in case you don’t remember, Serious Sam 3 had a rather interesting form of DRM, which involved a giant invincible armoured scorpion that would hunt down players if they attempted to play a pirated copy of the game. In The Talos Principle, pirates would always get stuck in an elevator, which made the game impossible to play. Serious Sam 4 will also support the Vulkan API, and it will offer an incredibly high number of enemies present on-screen at the same time. Alen Ladavac from Croteam issued the following statement on Steam:

“We will support Vulkan. But we probably won’t be removing support for other APIs soon. SS4 certainly will not use the same version of engine as Talos does. It will use a _much_ improved version. Exact details will be revealed when SS4 is officially presented.”

Are you looking forward to Serious Sam 4?
