Sharkoon is announcing the new SilentStorm IceWind series of power supplies available in standard White or Black editions. These are 80-Plus bronze rated units with partially modular cabling. To keep the cable management even cleaner, Sharkoon bundles the IceWind series with individually sleeved cables. It even comes with a portable bag to store the modular cables properly when not in use. There are also cable combs included so as to keep the wires separated without overlapping.
Inside is a DC-to-DC power supply design with 85% efficiency at 50% load. The DC-to-DC design puts emphasis on a single strong 45.9A +12V rail and it is ideal for most DIY system builders. There are three continous power rating options available: 550W, 650W and 750W. It also features a host of protection features including OCP, OVP, UVP, SCP, OTP and OPP.
To keep temperatures in check, the Icewind series PSUs come with a 135mm ball-bearing fan. These last a lot longer than sleeve bearing models and operate at a lower noise. Under 50% load, the fan only reaches 16dB(A). Moreoever, even if it reaches 100% load, it only peaks at 24.7dB(A). The body of the unit itself is quite compact at only 160 x 150 x 86mm.
The Sharkoon SilentStorm IceWind series is surprisingly affordable, starting at only 69.90 EUR for the 550W version. It should be available in retail stores carrying Sharkoon products by the end of July.
