Sharkoon T9 Mid Tower ATX PC Chassis Review

When I first saw this come in to us with the words value all over it was a little dubious as to whether its build quality and features would be up to a reasonable standard.  This said though Sharkoon have passed on the same level of quality that they have in their other products onto this and even though it is a value range case, it has a slight feel that it should cost more than it does.

Sharkoon have managed to pull off the two sided approach to the design of the case very well with the exterior being simple and somewhat conservative and the interior letting its hair down with the bright colour options that are available and LED lit fans.  As I mentioned before, if the option of the bright interior is not to your taste then Sharkoon do also supply the case with an all black finish and non-lit fans for the complete conservative look.  As a heads up, a great board to go with the interior of the Poisonous Green interior like we have here would be the G1.Sniper2 Z68 board from Gigabyte that we reviewed not too long ago.  The bright red version of the T9 would easily suit an Asus ROG board of any sort and the modern white would suit many different colour schemes but primarily one with dark components and white cables for example.  As for the black, everything and anything would go with that…

Feature wise the T9 packs a lot in, with the inclusion of the USB3.0 on the front of the case, tool less design inside, acrylic side window, bright colour options inside, cable management, space to bolt an SSD in and grommets on the rear for water cooling.  The only thing that I would have liked to have seen different is the front I/O on the inside on the front cover.  I feel it would have been more beneficial to attach the I/O to the case itself and have cut outs in the front panel instead.

Space in a midi sized chassis design can sometimes offer up some problems with fitting components in with the space (or potentially the lack there of) that is available inside.  Whilst the T9 gives the floor to ceiling drive bays, the rest of the case is spacious enough to happily fit in long length GPUs and also a longer length power supply if you so wished.  Water cooling is an option that would take a little bit of thinking of here, whilst there are the two grommets on the rear of the case to pass through hoses, where one would normally mount a rad in the roof of the case, that option is not available here.  This leaves some options however, with a bit of creativity I imagine that a double length rad could be mounted in the front of the case behind the two fans and/or as in our case we used a Corsair H80 and mounted it in place of the rear fan.  This would be the more viable method especially considering all in one CPU water cooling systems are becoming more and more common on the market.

Going back to the colour options, the price of each one does vary but only by a few pounds; the poisonous green is £50.28, the bright red £52.78, modern white £46.66 and the pure black plain option is £47.96. Whilst these are not the cheapest ‘value’ cases that can be had, for the features that are included in the T9 its price point positioning in the market is about right.  Being a mid tower case, there are a number of other options that are availble from the likes of Silverstone, Lian-Li and Coolermaster to name but a few but for those that have similar features and options, their price points are slightly higher at around the £90-£100 mark which gives the T9 a competitive price in comparison.

If you’re after a case that can cover a number of bases, in keeping ‘at a glance’ looks toned down with a bit of flair on the inside, the T9 is a good case to consider, especially with the budget conscious builder in mind.
