The Shuttle XH110V Intel H110 Chipset Skylake Barebones is available from quite a few retailers, but we found it from eBuyer for a very reasonable £162.08, which when you consider covers the cost of the chassis, motherboard, CPU cooler, and the PSU, is exceptional value for money. Just add your own storage, memory, CPU and OS and you’re good to go.

Overview

Shuttle have really done a great job with this system, not only is it affordable, but it’s also impressively compact and easy to work with, making it an attractive solution for a very wide range of usage scenarios. When it comes to deploying a wide range of systems in an office environment, this is certainly a viable solution, as it’s cheaper than buying all the base components yourself, comes pre-assembled, fitting your own components takes a few minutes and that means you can setup multiple systems in a good time and on a reasonable budget.

The compact form factor makes it great for sitting on your desktop, behind your monitor, under a store counter, or even as part of a home entertainment center. It also means the system is very portable, as it can be easily picked up and stored or transported. If you’re planning to use it for digital signage at events, then it’s certainly a viable system to do so and even supports multiple displays, as well as 4K playback.

The build quality is really good here, nothing exceptional, but certainly robust enough to survive a busy work environment. The way the case can be opened up, and various components removed/installed is nicely laid out too, making it easy to work with and requiring very little experience, which is impressive given at how compact everything is on the interior.

Performance may not seem amazing on our charts, but keep in mind this is a small system, with a lower power processor. However, it’ll still get you through office tasks, 4K video playback, web browsing and a host of other multimedia tasks without skipping and beat. If you need it for doing some rendering, or other CPU intensive heavy lifting, it’ll handle an Intel Core i7 easily enough and give you the extra power you require.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Compact and stylish design
  • Excellent connectivity
  • Easy to set up and use
  • Supports a good range of CPUs
  • Built-in CPU cooler is more than capable
  • Cost effective

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • There’s obviously no room for a lot of storage drives here, but that’s a tradeoff of the compact design

“If you’re looking for a versatile, compact, cost-effective and easy to work with starting point for your next system build, the XH110V certainly ticks all the right boxes. Highly recommended.”
