Sierra Gaming Legends Return to Make a Brand New Title!

At the risk of potentially revealing to you just how old I am, growing up as a child (with our very humble IBM 486 PC), I have many fond memories of playing the various excellent games created by Sierra. Some of my favourites included; Kings Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, and later, on a significantly better system, Phantasmagoria. – Following the sale of the company back in 1996, however, studio creators Ken and Roberta Williams have largely been enjoying their retirement ever since (as I understand it, Ken actually writes a lot these days about boats).
Following the launch of a new website, however, if you too are huge fans of the classic days of PC gaming, then we have some very exciting news for you, namely that both Ken and Roberta Williams have confirmed that they are back in the business of making games with a new title set to arrive (all going well) before the end of the year!
Ken and Roberta Williams Are Back…
Known only as ‘Top Secret’, which may very well just be a working title, they have announced that the title will enter beta testing in Summer which would be more than a little indicative that a full-blown release could be on the cards before the end of this year.
Ken and Roberta Williams, two legendary developers in the history of gaming, are set to release a new video game that the creators say will be “Sierra flavored,” in the same Vein as early successful franchises like Kings Quest and the Leisure Suit Larry series, but for modern gamers.
The newest entry is preliminarily titled The Secret and will be a single player game that the developers say will be beta-tested by the end of the summer.
“Roberta and I have been asked for decades whether we would ever produce another game, and we have always firmly said ‘no’. This changed when Roberta had a clever idea for a game, at the same time I am having fun learning the Unity 3D development environment, and I happened to be chatting with a talented 3D artist.”
… But Sierra is Not
The only exceptionally mildly disappointing news is that despite the fact that we are getting a brand new title from Ken and Roberta Williams, that will clearly be inspired by the games they created during the Sierra era, the company is not in their control and, as such, the brand still remains pretty much dead. – I can’t lie though, after nearly 25 years in retirement, I’m exceptionally excited to see what they’ve come up with. I mean, it must be really good to get them back sat at a desk, right?…
