SilentiumPC Fera 5 Dual Fan CPU Cooler Review

A Closer Look
Coming as a dual-fan design, this cooler is certainly a little bit more imposing than its standard single-fan little bother. However, the cooler itself presents itself excellent with a black and stainless steel aesthetic and, overall, looks and feels like a quality design. – As with pretty much all CPU coolers, however, there are individual aspects that go into the overall design. Let’s, therefore, take a closer look at some of the key points of this design.
Contact Plate
The contact plate has 4 copper heat pipes that extend from each side and go into the radiator. A decently high number given that, overall, this is quite a small design. In addition to this, you’ll also note some nice patternation has been applied to the base of the radiator. Albeit, given that this is the only angle you could get a good view of it (and it shouldn’t be visible when installed), we’re not entirely sure why SilentiumPC chooses to do this, but hey, it’s nothing to grumble about.
Although the contact plate itself isn’t overly large (and certainly not suitable for AMD’s TR4 socket), this should still provide the perfect coverage for all the major consumer-level Intel and AMD processors. With its nicely polished copper finish as well, this will (hopefully) also result in some nice heat transfer which, of course, is one of its most important tasks.
Radiator
The radiator offers a nice aesthetic of the black covering plate against the stainless steel radiator fins. Despite the lack of any RGB lighting, it does appear that this cooler can still manage to pull off a nice sleek and subtle aesthetic that should look at home in any PC system.
Although branding is visible to the top of the cooler, it’s nicely understated so that it adds rather than detracts from the overall look SilentiumPC is going for here.
A portion of the radiator fins are slightly interwoven to allow for the most maximum coverage possible from such a small design. Despite this, however, there are still plenty of nice gaps between them which should result in a firm and free air flow.
At the side of the cover plate, SilentiumPC has included some denotations to mark exactly how the user should be looking to configure the fans. Albeit, in the grand scheme of things, I don’t think it would do too much harm if you did accidentally get it the ‘wrong’ way around. – In addition to this, there are inserts to the cover plate to which the fans neatly fit inside. This ensures that they are close as possible while also potentially reducing the chances of any vibrations or disruption to the airflow.
Fan
Coming with two fans, the designs you are provided with are exceptionally attractive and perhaps one of the biggest stand out aesthetic features of the Fera 5 Dual Fan.
Each fan has well thought out branding applied that adds to the visual presentation rather than detracts. Another key item of interest is the very eye-catching serrations fitted to the edge of each blade. Does it help airflow? I have no idea. They look pretty cool though.
Each fan corner also comes with a nicely spongy anti-vibration pad. Albeit, I do advise some caution when handling the fan as these do have the habit of slipping off. Don’t worry if they do though, they easily ‘clip’ back on.
A closer look at the fan reveals its SilentiumPC’s own ‘Fluctus’ 120mm design. Something exceptionally promising for the performance figures as, given that this is an own designed product, we can likely assume that it has either been customised or specifically selected to work as best as possible with this coolers design.
Overall
As a completed design, the Fera 5 Dual Fan looks like a very solid CPU cooler. In fact, when compared to the standard model (which only has one fan), I think this higher-tier model actually looks better and, visually, more balanced. On the whole, though, there’s nothing to fault with how this looks, and the quality of the design is certainly evident even despite the relatively benign price tag.
How it looks, however, is only one aspect of this review. We also have to test it. – Before we get onto the results, however, let’s see how easy this is to install!
