Be it in performance or simply the fact that they look a little bland, it's not uncommon for people to look towards replacing them with something that has a little bit more going to for it. With that in mind, we take a look at the SilentiumPC Sigma PRO Corona RGB. A 120mm case kit comprising of 3 fans with RGB lighting. These fans come available to either run independently or as part of a motherboard sync set-up. Offering some impressive RGB performance, let's take a closer look and see if these could be the icing on the cake for your system! The kit includes three 120mm Sigma PRO Corona RGB fans and tiny yet powerful Nano RGB controller. Built-in inside the ring-shaped casing there are 18 bring RGB LEDs that enable the user to choose from any colour to create stunning lightning effects. Three methods of controlling these effects are available. First, manually, using the included Nano RGB controller which has several pre-defined modes, from constant lightning, through slow, gradual color change and breathing to aggressive strobe. Additional button speeds or slows down each of the effects and can also turn the illumination off completely. Next option is using the Aurora Sync controller available in SilentiumPC Armis TG RGB cases. Last option is simply connecting the fans to the RGB-capable motherboard and using the software such as ASRock RGB LED, Asus Aura, EVGA RGB or MSI Mystic Light. Despite being heavily focused on aesthetics the airflow characteristics are not compromised. Fixed speed of 1500 RPM is carefully set for optimal noise rating while HBS bearing ensures smoothness and reliability. Product Dimensions As these are 120mm fans, they are primarily designed for system cooling. Yes, there are larger system fans available, but 120mm is usually the standard intake/exhaust profile for most system chassis' and components. Packaging and Accessories The exterior packaging is honestly excellent. The colour choice is excellent with the white background really making the fans nice and clearly visible. While the information is limited, what do you need to know really? It's a 120mm RGB fan kit comprising of 3 fans! If you were after more of the technical aspect of the kit, the rear and sides give brief information on the product. While the information isn't length, it's entirely to the point. As such, you know exactly what you're getting within a couple minutes examination of the packaging. A Closer Look Each of the fans is individually packaged within the box within their own slightly smaller box. With the components also located separately, this is really nice and simple and actually rather pleasant to check-out as you unpackage it. While this does come with a motherboard sync adaptor, you are also supplied with a manual controller. The controller is relatively nice quality with it being nicely tactile and easy to handle. With the options all being clearly labelled as well, it won't be long before you're cycling through the options to see what you can do. In addition to the manual RGB controller, you are also given adaptors to ensure you can easily hook up all the fans and also a product manual. The manual is well written relying more on pictures than actual written instructions. In terms of intuiativeness though, most PC owners will have no difficulty getting these hooked up. Fans When buying a fan kit, the first thing you are clearly going to want to have a look at is the fans. The three provided have a fantastic design as can clearly be seen below. The utilisation of the RGB fan design allows for some very impressive lighting effects. The range provided is also quite decent. While not exactly 16.2 million colours, you have your 'rainbow' to choose from or rotate through. The circular design of the fans is a nice alternative to the standard squared you see often. With the mounting points set on the edge, it provides a nice overall aesthetic. As above, while the colour palette isn't massively varied, what is on display is nice, bold and definitely vivid. These fans would definitely compliment any RGB system build without dominating or being drowned out. Installation and Performance In terms of installation, these fans are no more difficult or easy than most 120mm fans. In other words, fitting them to your system will take no longer than 5 minutes. This is, of course, based on the wiggle room and ease of use your chassis has. Although this kit is primarily a set of case fans, it should be noted that the 120mm design should allow them to be fitted to almost any 120mm compatible device. This should include cooler (particularly AIO cooler). Video It can sometimes be difficult to exactly despite a product in operation. Particularly in real-life terms outside of the manufacturers own promotional content. We have therefore put a brief video together to show both the cooler and wireless hub in operation. Final Thoughts How Much Does it Cost? Although we have not been able to find any confirmation, we understand that the SilentiumPC Sigma PRO Corona RGB kit retails for a price in the region of £25-£30. In terms of a fan kit, this actually represents excellent value. Remember, you can easily spend over £10 on a fairly standard system fan. As such, to get 3 for less than £30, which incidentally not only has RGB lighting but lighting capable of sync motherboard support is really great. Overview From the packaging to the fan aesthetics, we really like this fan kit. With 3 fans, this should be more than enough to cover the needs of most of the high-end chassis kits and with the nice bright RGB lighting effects (and design of the fans themselves) these do a really good job of standing out from the pack. Performance Given that these are system fans, performance is really relative to what the fans can do. With a 33.3CFM airflow, these fans are neither overly good or bad in terms of airflow. At a maximum speed of 1500rpm though, that is hardly surprising or unusual. With a 3 pin power adaptor, you do, of course, not have access to the high-control offered by PWM connectors, but regardless of which, the performance should be more than suitable for your needs. Acoustics The system packaging does not indicate an operating noise level of DBA. From our testing though, we found that the fans at full speed operated at around 38-39dBA. While not overly loud, these are not exactly quiet either. That being said though, the chances that you would run these at 1500rpm is exceptionally unlikely. At lower speeds, the fans are impressively quiet. Design It is again difficult to find any fault. I really like these system cooling fans. The packaging is exceptional. The fan design is relatively unique and even the RGB controller is surprisingly good. We're not saying that these fans are faultless, but it's hard to find anything in the design to criticise either. The RGB lighting design is one of the best I have seen. It is bright and bold while also somehow remaining understated. It again speaks of some very clever decisions made in terms of the design. Should I Buy One? When it comes to system fans, it's hard not to exaggerate just how much the market is flooded by poor quality and noisy options. For something in this price range, you are literally spoilt choice in those regards! The SilentiumPC Sigma PRO Corona RGB Kit, however, is more than a few steps above this. While they are not high-performance, you wouldn't expect that for less than £30! When you consider that you're getting 3 nicely designed fans, with some excellent RGB effects, these really do represent an excellent upgrade option for many standard system cooling fans. Yes, there are better options available, but not within this budget! This is the exact type of product our 'Bang For Buck' award was made for! Pros Fantastic packaging and presentation. Fan design is nice and somewhat unique. RGB lighting effects are bright and bold while also being understated (albeit your colour palette is rather limited). Good acoustic performance at standard operation. Cons None. Neutral None.
