Drop and Submerge Tests

When I have a drive like the Armor A85 here in the test lab, I simply have to perform drop and submerge tests too. The drive is rated to handle it, so it shouldn’t be a problem – in theory.

Submerged Drive

The drive is rated to handle a depth of up to one meter for over 30 minutes. I can’t simulate that kind of depth here in the office, but I can put it in a bucket of water for 30 minutes and see whether it still works after doing so.

The drive even floated half way for me with the plastic/rubber end staying at the surface.

Dropping Drive

The Armor A85 is rated to withstand drops from up to 1.2 meters on all sides. A normal table is 70-80cm high and that is a very likely location for the drive to drop from. A quick turn and suddenly you swoop your drive off the table. I will do this five times and then see whether the drive still works as it should

Results

The drive survived both testing areas without a hitch and the drive still worked flawlessly after both tests and also in between. I naturally tested the drive between the two types of tests here too. It didn’t show any physical damage, scratches, or bumps after the drop tests. Dust off the dirt and it’s ready to be used.
