SilverStone technology is expanding their essential series power supplies with the introduction of a new 450W model. As the name suggests, these are basic power supply units lacking extras such as modular cabling. The intention is to provide a good performance-per-watt over other PSUs. Like the rest of SilverStone’s power supply line however, the Essential series features compact units, with high power densities. This model in particular has a 249W per liter and is only 140mm long.
This unit comes with an 80 Plus Bronze rating. Which means by 230V EU standards, it is 88% efficient at 50% load and at least 85% efficient under 100% load. It has Active Power Factor correction as well as a host of protection features. This includes over power, over voltage and short circuit protection built-in. A single 120mm fan handles the active cooling duties and it has a minimum noise level of only 18dBA. This fan remains quiet most of the time, only ramping up beyond 500 RPM after 55% load, and is still under 1000 RPM at 75% load.
It is non-modular, so all the cables are attached on the same starting point as the rest. Other than the essential 24-pin, and 8-pin ATX 12V connectors, it provides two 6+2-pin PCIe connector cables. These are 500mm long each, similar to the 24-pin connector cable, while the 8-pin CPU power connector is longer at 750mm. This makes cable routing much easier since it can take the long-way at the back when managing. As for drive connectors, it has four SATA connectors across two 500mm long cables and three 4-pin peripheral connectors across two cables.
