SilverStone Announces MS09 M.2 to USB 3.1 Gen2 Enclosure

SilverStone has a new storage related product hitting the markets soon. It is a compact M.2 enclosure with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 connectivity. USB 3.1 Gen 2 means the interface supports up to 10Gb/s super speed transfer rates. However, it only supports M.2 SATA drives using VIA VL715 controller, which is understandable considering its size. The entire enclosure measures only 110mm (W) x 9mm (H) x 26mm. The connector uses a standard A-type so it readily plugs into any USB header without the need for an adapter. The connector also retracts so it can remain protected until necessary.

The enclosure itself is made of aluminium and easily pocketable. There is a blue LED indicator near the tip, letting users know when it is powered up (solid) and when there is activity (blinking). Installation requires the removal of screw drivers and it can fit an M.2 2260 or M.2 2280 form factor drives. Only B-key SATA M.2 SSDs will work, so unfortunately for those with an NVMe PCIe x4 M.2, they would have to wait for a different product.

The SilverStone MS09 is plug-and-play, requiring no drivers to use. Simply install on any Microsoft Windows 8, 8, 8.1 or 10 system and it will be detected. Mac 10.8.6 OS is also supported.

Pricing and Availability

The SilverStone MS09 has an MSRP of 28.90€ exclusding VAT, and will be available in the EU area starting November 1st, 2017.
