Silverstone have released their TS07 hard drive enclosure. Using the latest technologies of USB 3.0 (which supports up to 5GB/s) and SATA III (which supports up to 6GB/s) users will find they are not bottlenecked by the bandwidth constraints of USB 3.0 especially on mechanical hard drives which have yet to reach saturation on the 3GB/s SATA II interface. SilverStone have also made this drive compatible with USB 2.0 which is nice although using this on a USB 2.0 connection will limit data transfers to about 30MB/s at the maximum.
The enclosure supports 3.5″ drives on both the SATA II and SATA III interface. It is powered externally by a power brick and weighs 340g when empty. The plug and play technology involved means it supports all the latest operating systems without the need for any software installation (Windows 7, XP and Vista, Mac OS X and Linux). The enclosure is made from aluminium and plastic and comes in black only. Pricing is listed as 30 Euros excluding VAT.
