Overview
SilverStone once again created one of those gadgets that I didn’t know that I couldn’t do without until I saw it. The ES01 is so simple, yet such a brilliant idea. The ability to remotely turn your computer on and off as well as reset it can be a very useful feature for hard to reach system as well as random convenience. At the same time, you can use the remote switch as a form of hardware layered protection by not using the included Y-cable and eliminate the possibility of using the chassis’ own buttons. Whichever way you want to use the remote is up to you, but it does offer a lot of great options.
The installation was as easy as it could be. Plug the card in and connect the two cables and it was ready to go. I had no trouble using the remote from any location in my apartment to turn the system on and off despite the system being located in the furthest possible corner.
The remote is small and light which is a great thing when placed on a key chain or similar locations. It uses standard batteries that you can get almost anywhere these days, which is a big bonus in case it should run out of juice. That shouldn’t be anything you need to worry about for quite a while considering the minimal usage time a device like this has. You can expect the included battery to last a very long time.
Pros:
- Easy installation
- Lightweight remote
- Great range
- Multiple usage-methods
Cons:
- No pairing method which could be needed when multiple systems utilize an ES01 add-in card.
“SilverStone’s ES01 is a brilliant little add-in card that you can’t do without once you had it in your system. Start your engines before you reach your desk and be ready to rock when you do.”
