SilverStone is introducing a new cooler specifically for M.2 SSDs. The TP02-M2 is an aluminium alloy heatsink solution that fits 2280 form factor M.2 drives. The 2280 refers to the width and length of the unit. 22 is the standard width, and 80mm is the length. Although there are 22110 and 2260 form factor M.2 SSDs, those are a few and far between in comparison to the 2280.
Unlike other M.2 heatsinks which are simple flat pieces of metal, the TP02-M2 is an actual heatsink which encourages airflow to pass through. This makes it much more effective in cooling the M.2 surface component. The downside is of course, it adds height to the drive. This normally could pose some clearance issues, but Silverstone limits the heatsink’s height to 10mm. Silverstone also includes thermal pads with varying height. This allows users to choose which provides better compatibility with their setup. These thermal pads have a thermal conductivity of 1.5W/m.k and has an operating temperature of -20 degrees Celcius~180 degrees Celcius.
The heatsink itself weighs 16.1 grams, but two gray pads are available for single and double sided drives. One is 1mm thick, while the other is 1.5mm thick. The installation is also very straightforward, involving simply removing the cover from the adhesive and the heatsink surface. Do note that there are rare instances where the video card may pose a clearance issue with the TP02-M2. If that is the case, it is advisable to use the M.2 slot that is further from the GPU. The TP02-M2 is also compatible with Silverstone’s ECM22 M.2 to PCIe adapter.
