Final Thoughts

Price

The SilverStone SST-PS13B Midi-Tower is available from most major retailers and we found it at Overclockers UK for a very reasonable £34.99 + shipping. This is obviously cost-effective and the inclusion of a 120mm fans certainly helps, although we suggest at least one extra 120mm intake fan to help with cooling and keeping the internal air pressure up in the chassis to help combat dust buildup.

Overview

Being an affordable product, it was never going to topple the high-end models that SilverStone product in terms of feature or performance, but then again, it was never designed to do so. What we have here is a very competitive product that ticks off all the basics and offers a durable product for a reasonable price and that’s certainly a positive thing.

When building a new system, cost is a major factor and it doesn’t matter if you’re looking to build a cheaper system to being with, or you spent too much of your budget on a faster graphics card, the SST-PS13B Mini-Tower still offers everything you need. For a budget build, it’s got good connectivity, room for a large motherboard, and a reasonable amount of storage space and airflow, but with additional fan mounts and room for long (and multiple) graphics cards, it also has more than enough space for a high-performance system, while still maintaining its affordability.

Build quality is good, or at least it’s very good for this price range. The chassis is steel and plastic overall, but it’s nicely finished, has a good quality paint job and wouldn’t look out-of-place at home or in the office. The configuration is a little basic, with virtually no cable routing options and a basic air filtering system, but it will get the job done and as far as cable routing goes, a few cable ties and a little bit of care can easily get you back on track and keep your systems airflow as clear as possible.

Pros

  • Competitive price
  • Compact size
  • Still capable of housing a pair of high-end and long graphics cards
  • Ideal for an air-cooled build
  • Tidy aesthetics
  • Easy to work with

Cons

  • Snap-off expansion slot covers
  • No cable routing
  • Limited dust filtering

“The SilverStone PS13 is a fairly basic chassis, but it still manages to offer up support for a decent amount of hardware at a competitive price. With a smart-looking design and its ease of use, we can see if proving popular with those aiming for an affordable or first-time system build.”
