Silverstone PS09 Micro-ATX Chassis Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Silverstone PS09 is available from Scan.co.uk for £31.80 + shipping, bringing the total price to just under £40. It’s very budget friendly and given that it features sound proofing, air filters, two USB 3.0 ports on the front, it’s actually pretty good value for money.

Overview

The Silverstone PS09 doesn’t exactly excite or set the world on fire with its awesomeness, in fact if I’m completely honest, it’s a little bit boring. There is little here to get enthusiastic about, but on the whole, I think that is the point. The case has been designed with budget in mind, so while there isn’t a great amount of visual flair, the budget has certainly gone into packing as many features as possible into an already tight budget.

The case is meant to be understated, it’s the kind of case you can tuck away on or under a desk and it doesn’t distract you, it just gets on with its job of being a tidy box for your rig. This is further improved with the sound proofing material, this case is designed to not be seen and not be heard, leaving you to get along with your work.

Silverstone are well-known for packing plenty of features into their range of cases and the PS09 is no different, at this price range I think it is great to see dual USB 3.0 ports on the front panel, as well as removable and washable dust filters that are easily accessible from the front. A large cut-out allows for easy CPU cooler installations, and the side panels are generously padded with sound dampening material. A single 120mm fan is included and should be more than enough for any modestly powerful system given the cases small form factor.

Should you wish to put a particularly hot running or perhaps dual GPU setup in this case, then you would want to invest in an extra 80mm fan for the front panel to help it breath, but overall the chassis is designed more for professional use, office system or any other low to mid powered rig. If you want high-end cooling and features for a gaming rig, then you’ll typically want to be looking around £60+ products from the Silverstone range.

Pros

  • Dual USB 3.0 ports on front panel
  • Easy access dust filters
  • Sound proofing material pre-installed
  • 14.1″ GPU support
  • Competitive price

Cons

  • Limited ventilation means it’s not ideal for most gaming rigs

“While the PS09 may be a little dull, it’s still a great case for the money and if you need something straight forward, quiet and budget friendly for a low-mid powered system, or an affordable solution for a professional / office system, then you’ll find the PS09 to be a solid investment.”
