Final Thoughts

Price

While this is a budget focused chassis, it’s still impressive how cheap it actually is. The Silverstone SST-RL05B-W is available from many retailers, but we found it at SCAN for just £49.99 + shipping, and that’s a deal that is very hard to pass up. This level of specification and design for around £60 inc shipping is fantastic value for money.

Overview

SilverStone makes a lot of great chassis, and while I would love to see them focus more on their high-end models, as they seem to be doing less of those each year, I can’t argue with the results of what they’re doing in the budget friendly end of the market. The RL05 is fantastic proof that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a great looking and performing chassis to show off your latest gaming hardware.

The aesthetics are great, and while I admit that is a subjective matter, the red highlights look great and even more so when the LED fans are powered up, giving it a warm glow throughout that is sure to compliment your system build. Then you’ve got a PSU shroud to keep things looking clean, decent cable routing options and some nice mounts to display 2.5″ drives in the front, giving it a nice premium look and all this pays off when you’ve got that huge and crystal clear side panel window to enjoy the view.

Build quality is pretty good, it’s not fantastic, but any shortfalls are easily overlooked when you look at the price tag. The right side panel feels a little thin, as does the top panel, but if you want something thicker and stronger, expect to pay more for it, something has to give to keep the price down. I am happy to see that SilverStone didn’t skimp on the stock cooling through, and those two 140mm fans in the front go a long way to increasing the value for money here.

Component compatibility is very high, with support for ATX motherboards, good CPU cooler clearance, larger ATX PSUs should fit easily enough, good amount of HDD bays, and more, making it a well-rounded chassis for this budget range.

Pros

  • Stylish aesthetics
  • 2 x 140mm LED fans pre-installed
  • PSU shroud
  • Cable routing
  • Room for extra-long GPUs
  • Affordable price

Cons

  • Some panels feel a little thin

“The SilverStone RL05 is one of the best chassis on the market for under £60. Offering up unique aesthetics, excellent component support and more for a price that won’t hurt your wallet; highly recommended!”
