How Much Does it Cost?

The Silverstone SETA D1 Case is available now from most major retailers, and you can get one for just £154.99 at Overclockers UK. That may seem a little expensive for a case that doesn’t have pretty RGB or a window on the side, but it offers a lot more than most high-end PC cases.

Overview

This is one of the most interesting cases I’ve tested in ages, even if, and I mean this in a positive sense, it’s one of the most boring-looking cases too. I see lots of cases that are trying to grab your attention, and frankly, that’s not what everyone wants. In an office environment, in your living room, in your home theatre, a video editing studio, and loads of other places where you want a case that doesn’t offer any visual distraction, then sometimes, boring is exactly what you need.

One thing is for certain though, it’s very well made, and the thicker steel, tightly fitting drive trays, panels and filters are all hallmarks of a quality product. It’s extremely modular too, and virtually everything is just one or two screws away from being removable and movable throughout the case. Expanding on storage, optical bays, and cooling is easily done.

I would have liked a proper slide-out dust filter on the front, but I can appreciate why that’s not the case given the modular nature of the case. You can use the optional radiator mount to get a 360mm radiator in there though, which is awesome. However, I think the biggest appeal of this case is being able to add up to 4 x 5.25″ bays, a rare thing these days. If you wanted an optical drive or two, plus some front-mounted hot-swap HDD bays for your servers, it’s going to be great.

Should I Buy One?

While there’s no reason why you couldn’t use it for a gaming rig, and have it as a bit of a sleeper build, it’s very well suited to workstation and server-style builds most of all. If you require huge amounts of storage, and those rare 5.25″ bays, it’s certainly going to appeal. I think the overall build quality and practicality of it are the biggest appeal though, as it has fantastic upgrade potential that should see it last for many years of service and system rebuilds.
