Silverstone SUGO Series SG10 Micro-ATX Chassis Review

Silverstone have already proven to me many times over that they can make some of the best compact chassis solutions on the market, the SG10 only helps to reassert that opinion and as much as I loved the previous model, the SG09, the SG10 addresses the one gripe I had, the plastic front panel. The SG10 has shed its plastic grill and now sports that slick-looking aluminum panel, nice high quality mesh a clean looking I/O panel that really puts the SG10 into the heart of the premium chassis market.

Of course this does come with one down side, when you increase the build, design and material quality of something, it typically results in an increase in price and the SG10 is £155 + shipping, which is obviously very expensive. So lets take a quick look at what we’ve seen today, because even though this chassis is very expensive, I think it’s still worth every penny.

The exterior dimensions of this chassis are without a doubt small, it doesn’t matter if it’s next to your TV, on your desktop or on the floor next to you, it looks great and its overall design compliments almost any setup really well. Yet for all its compact size, it can still hold a m-atx motherboard, which in turn means it can hold a pair of graphics cards, a high end CPU, a large CPU cooler, a full size PSU, 6 hard drives and lets not for get that while it already has robust air cooling, there is still room for more fans. Other than other members of the Silverstone range, I can’t think of anything this small that can hold that much.

Build quality is simply incredible, every panel has been cut and shaped to perfection, high gloss finishes inside and out, no rough edges and the level of engineering and design that has gone into the layout, hard drive bays, PSU installation system, cooling fans and more all ready pay off in terms of ergonomics, cooling performance and aesthetics.

I’m amazed there was ever room for cable management here too, although I admit that might not be so neat and tidy by the time you hook up half a dozen hard drives and an extra graphics card, but given there is no side window and there is still plenty of ventilation on the chassis, I don’t think that is really a problem.

Overall it’s a great design, packed full of practical solutions and features that make it worth every penny and while you can get the same great component compatibility and form factor from the SG09, the front panel of the SG10 looks many times better, something that will no doubt prove popular with those who want the system on top of their desk or next to a TV.

Pros

  • LAN friendly
  • Stylish
  • Holds lots of components
  • Great cooling

Cons

  • Expensive

eTeknix says: “Silverstone prove once again that they’re the masters of compact chassis design and the SG10 is the chassis equivalent of a Tardis in terms of internal storage space.

  1. I’d get this were it not for the giant “Type-R” Silverstone badge and the unnecessary “MADE IN CHINA” in 100pt font stamped into the metal.
