Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Silverstone Sugo SST-SG12B Micro-ATX is available from most major retailers and while it isn’t especially cheap, it’s price where I would have expected given the brand name and features that it offers, which is another way of saying “you get what you pay for”. You can pick it up in the UK from Scan Computers for £79.08 + shipping, while readers in the US can find it at Amazon for $98 + shipping.

Overview

The Silverstone Sugo series is a lot like knowing which direction the sun will rise and set, you know you’re going to get the same thing time and time again. The Sugo series was great when it started and it hasn’t lost any of it over time. This isn’t the best chassis for everyone, that’s for sure, as a lot of people prefer a tower-style chassis. However, if you’re into the trend of building mighty gaming rigs that fit under your TV, then this will certainly deliver what you need. If you need a powerful rendering workstation, this would be great for a Micro-ATX Xeon based system with a huge bank of storage drives in RAID configuration; not to mention somewhere between the two for an enthusiast gaming rig.

There’s a huge amount of storage, good GPU clearance and a good amount of ventilation on offer. The advantage of having a full ATX PSU means you won’t be limited on power and there’s even the added bonus of that carry handle on the front, which even if you don’t use it as a handle, it still adds to the overall design.

I am concerned at the complete lack of dust filters, as this seems like a simple thing to add for this price, but on the other hand the passive airflow is plentiful and does give a more direct airflow, as there’s not exactly a lot of space for fans here anyway.

Build quality is what you would expect from Silverstone, rock solid and without a doubt it’s going to last you many years of service. Again, that’s the premium you’re paying for and it shows, especially thanks to that lovely brushed aluminium front panel, which completes the build very nicely.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Huge amounts of storage bays
  • Support for long graphics cards
  • Unique front panel with handle
  • Dual 80mm GPU fan bracket
  • ATX PSU support

Cons

  • No dust filters on any of the intakes

“The Silverstone Sugo SG12 is build to handle a high-performance system in a relatively compact for factor. If you need huge amounts of storage and high-end graphics cards in a chassis you can literally pick up with on hand, this is the chassis to get; perfect for HTPC gaming, workstations, LAN gaming and more!”
