The team behind the start-up Skara—The Blade Remains are innovating more than just Multiplayer Online gaming. They are innovating the way start-ups get attention in social media by offering incentives for Facebook ‘likes’ and ‘retweets’ on Twitter.
“We realized there were lots of gamers out there who could help by telling their friends about us,” says Pablo Rodriguez, CEO of Skara, “So we wanted to recognize them by giving them some special access to Skara.”
Skara is currently campaigning on the crowdsourcing website Kickstarter to get the funding needed to launch its beta version by December 2013. Backers will in turn get special access to Skara, from chances to preview the game and Skara paraphernalia to privileged opportunities when the game goes live.
Now even gamers who can’t support the start-up through crowdfunding can get some special reward by using Facebook or Twitter to tell their friends about Skara. From its inception to its format, Skara has put a high premium on being highly artistic and uniquely social. It seeks to involve its players more than the average game, and for that reason it has opted for crowdsourced funding and this special recognition for social media attention.
A multiplatform MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, Skara pits five races against one another for domination of a world torn apart by cataclysmic events. Players must choose a race and faction and compete with one another on a global scale through live action fighting. Success is tracked with leader tables and honour points, which can be used to unlock special features. Skara aims to be the highest quality and most addictive F2P out there.
