Sky Q Voice Commands Are Finally Here!

Sky Q has been out for quite some time now, and with it came many new features to the service. Along with the bigger hard drive, the box now supports download and playback of 4K video, a new remote, and a few other little tricks. However, one feature has been sitting there waiting to be activated, and today is finally the day.

The Sky Q touch remote has a built-in microphone, with a voice search button right on the side. Most people don’t even notice it’s there, but it is. From today, you’ll be able to use the new voice searching features using simple commands to browse for your favourite shows and more. You’ll be able to search for;

  • Name of a movie, TV show, genre, actor or director
  • Movies with a specific age rating (U, PG, 15, 18), star rating and actor, for example ‘action movies with Tom Cruise’ or ‘kids movies rated U’ , or ‘comedy movies rated five stars’
  • Sports, sports team, or sporting event on a particular day, competition or tournament such as ‘Live cricket on this weekend’ or‘Liverpool game’
  • A hidden collection of famous movie quotes, for example “you can’t handle the truth”, “you had me at hello,” “my precious” and “Houston, we have a problem” among others
  • TV channel to see what’s on now and coming on later, for example, ‘what’s on Sky Atlantic tonight’

It’s believed that more features will come to the voice function, such as basic navigation commands, just take a look at the upcoming list. Unfortunately, no timeline for these features other than “2017 and beyond”.

• Record up to 6 channels while watching a 7th (Silver 2TB box only)
• Personalise the homepage
• Formula 1 in 4K Ultra HD
• Restart on Sky Sports (Football, F1 and Golf)
• Restart on Sky Entertainment
• Voice search
• Voice control
• Dolby Atmos support on UHD content
