Skype for Windows 8 announced

Microsoft has just presented a brand new version of Skype designed to run on Windows 8 and take advantage of the new features available in this operating system.

The download links aren’t yet released, as the company will make the app generally available on October 26, the same day when Windows 8 is scheduled to go on sale. It will be delivered via the Windows Store as a free download.

The app however is mostly focused on Windows 8’s touch capabilities and obviously creates a live tile on your Start Screen. It runs in the background and uses the new OS’ notification center to alert you whenever you receive a new message or call.

What’s more, it lets consumers bring Skype in the “People” app and thus call a contact with just a few “taps.” In addition, you can pin the most important people to the homescreen and start a conversation much faster.
