Skyrim: Special Edition 1.2 Update Patches More Stability Problems

Skyrim: Special Edition has only been out for two weeks, but has already had two major patches. The latest, released by Bethesda this week, fixes a number of known issues, including water rendering issues, werewolf transformation crashes, and poor mod browsing stability, while also adding alt-tab functionality.

The previous update, 1.1.52, fixed the over-compressed audio that left the remastered Skyrim sounding worse that the five-year-old original. The game still has a lot of bugs – some as old as the original game itself – and suffers a number of stability issues, including random crashes.

Update 1.2 is only downloadable via the game’s Steam Beta channel, and thus not available for all users yet, but is expected to roll out to everyone soon.

Skyrim: Special Edition 1.2 Update release notes:

Fixes

  • General stability and performance improvements
  • Fixed issue related to using alt-tab while playing the game (PC)
  • Fixed issue with water flow not rendering properly
  • Fixed crash related to changing from werewolf back to human form
  • Fixed crash related to reloading after changing Load Order of mods
  • General bug fixing and improvements with browsing Mods

How to access the Steam Beta

  • Log into Steam.
  • Right Click on Skyrim Special Edition in your Library.
  • Select Properties.
  • Select Betas.
  • A drop down menu will appear. Select Beta.
  • Select OK.
  • Wait a few minutes for game to update.
  • When done, Skyrim Special Edition [Beta] should appear in our Library.

If Bethesda keeps churning out these updates, Skyrim: Special Edition could be a stable game on all platforms by the end of the year.
