Last year, we told you that Sleeping Dogs would get its own movie adaptation, but things have been relatively quiet since. It’s definitely not uncommon for video game adaptations to be dropped in the middle of development. Sometimes, the story just doesn’t feel right, while other times the development costs end up being too high. Fortunately, Rogue One star Donnie Yen has recently hinted that the movie is still very much in the works. The news was revealed via Instagram, but even though the movie is “in motion,” it looks like “great things take a bit of time.”
Well, not in the actual sense, but Yen did offer up a series of images of himself next to images from the game. The pictures were not from the actual filming set, so we can just look at them as “proof of concept.” You can have a look at the actual Instagram post below. Remember to scroll through the available images.
Just in case you don’t know much about Sleeping Dogs, it is an open world game similar to Grand Theft Auto in many ways. It was released back in 2012, and it focused on the life of a Chinese-American cop named Wei Shen. Apart from allowing players to explore a complete recreation of Hong-Kong, the combat system was also pretty impressive. As for the movie adaptation, it is being produced by Original Film and DJ2 Entertainment. If Original Film sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same company that produced Fast & Furious.
