Sleeping Dogs PC Review

Sleeping dogs is a big game, there is no doubt about that, with around 30 hours of gameplay should you wish to pick every reach of the side missions, although there are plenty of hidden objects littered around the game world to keep you distracted if that is what you wish, I managed to complete the game in a little over 16 hours, which is pretty decent given that a lot of games these days you can walk through in around 4-6 hours. But this game offers a lot of room for exploration and fun, as well as great replay value, played as a nice guy gangster to the first time? why not go back and rampage your way through the entire game on a second playthrough.
While sure it does have a lot of features of other open world titles such as GTA IV, I don’t really like to make the comparison, it takes the basic principles, but puts its own twist on everything from the start, the strong mix of good cop / bad cop choices adds a nice dynamic to the missions and the story is actually worth listening to throughout, you even get to like the main protagonist and some of his friends as they get drawn into the stressful and dangerous world of the Triads.
It really is remarkable that this game even saw the light of day, given it was playable from start to finish when it was canned before being picked up by another developer, re branded and money didn’t exist to publish it in the first place, not uncommon in today’s economy, it’s like getting in a builder to finish another builders half done job, the generally don’t bother because there are too many risks, yet in this case they did and what a fantastic job they have done too, not only have they brought the now spiritual successor to True Crime back to life, but they have created what I hope will be another long standing IP in the process. I don’t doubt we will see some great expansions to this title over the next year with some DLC packs too.
Sleeping dogs is a great game though, offering a solid mixture of action, storytelling and open world gameplay and its great to see it doing well in the multi-format sales charts at the moment, it’s definitely a game I will be going back to and I highly recommend you check it out, which is why I am awarding it our Games Choice Award.
