SMART High Reliability Solutions Announces 8TB Highly Ruggedized MLC SSD

SMART High Reliability Solutions has announced that they now offer industrial grade solid-state drive solutions up to 8TB in capacity as part of their M-series drives The HRS-M1HC takes the form of a standard 2.5″ SATA 6Gb/s drive, although a bit thicker at 9.5mm since it is ruggedized and because of the extra hardware inside. It builds upon its predecessor the HRS-M1 and is also available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities although those come in a standard 7.0mm SSD enclosure thickness. Compared to the HRS-M1 which only has capacities ranging from 60GB to 2TB, the HRS-M1HC can be used for mission critical, surveillance, telemetry applications, and OS SMART High Reliability Solutions’ most versatile SSD yet.

The HRS-M1HC is capable of sequential read speeds of up to 520GB/s and write speeds of 500MB/s using MLC NAND flash, plus it has error correction features, encryption capabilities, data corruption protection, and S.M.A.R.T. attributes. In terms of longevity, the HRS-M1HC has a MTBF rating of 1.5 million hours and 2,000TB Total-Bytes Written rating on the 8TB size drive. Since it is ruggedized, it can operate at altitudes up to 100,000 feet as well as in the temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celcius. It can also weather shock and vibration up to 1000g and the optional conformal coating is available. Users also have the option to write protect or trigger erase sequence via an external trigger on this Opal 2.0 compliant drive. It also compliant with various Mil erase sequence methods including NSA-9-12, DoD NISPOM 5220.22-M, DoD NISPOM 5220.22-M-Sup 1, NSA/CSS Manual 130-2, NSA/CSS Manual 9-12, Army AR 380-19, Navy NAVSO P-5239-26, Air Force AFSSI-5020, and RCC-TG IRIG 106-07.
