Smart Home Automation Review – Control of Your Home

A Closer Look – Logitech Pop

Out of all the gadgets we’re looking to add to our setup, the Pop is something I’m really excited about, as much as I love Alexa and using voice commands, sometimes you just need a simple switch. Ironically, these are anything but simple in terms of what they can do, but they’re very simple to actually use, making them family friendly and very appealing to anyone building a smart home setup that needs to be flexible.

We’ve got two packs to play around with, the Starter Pack and the Add-on Home Switch. The Starter Pack comes with two switches in white, as well as a small mains powered hub that’s needed to connect however many switches you need to the Pop app, which can then pair with Alexa, Harmony and more. While the switches can be placed anywhere, they come with durable adhesive pads, so you can fit them to walls, furniture, or anywhere really.

The Pop buttons are gorgeous, super simple in terms of design and very stylish. There’s a range of colours available too, so you can easily tell which is which, although that’s not much of a problem if they’re in different rooms anyway. Each Pop has a single button with a nice mechanical “pop” when pressed. You can trigger up to three actions from each with either a single tap, double tap, or a long press.

Each Pop is fitted with two batteries, and Logitech say they’ll last five years before they need changing, although we haven’t the time to test them for that long, but we have had them up for a week and so far, no power issues.

The coloured button looks pretty funky too and would look great in a kids room, or perhaps you just want something that better suits your decor, the choice is yours.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
