Smart Stitches Tell You How Much You’ve Healed

Smart Stitches Tell You How Much You've Healed

When it comes to technology and medicine they go hand in hand. From the concept of being able to heal people from the inside out to giving people the ability to walk again, the latest piece of technology comes in the form of smart stitches.

The new stitches come from the team at Tufts University and are part of a new line of technology that could see the old throwable lifestyles we have replaced with reusable pieces of technology.

Outlined in a paper published by Microsystems & Nanoengineering the new stitches would contain sensors and electronics to help the healing process. The stitches contain everything from temperature and pressure gauges to a set of low-cost circuits to measure chemical compositions and strain.

The scanners can provide data that when compiled can tell you just how much the wound has healed. The smart stitches are also able to show signs of inflammation and bacterial infections, giving you information about wounds before they become an issue.

The use of smart technology for medical purposes isn’t unheard of but using technology that could help heal and warn against further complications could help fight injuries all the way from the front lines of war to the hospital around the corner.
