Smugglers Caught With Thousands of CPUs, Memory and SSDs At Chinese Border

Smugglers have once again been caught at the Chinese border this time with thousands of CPUs, Memory and SSDs at the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge crossing.

Smugglers Caught With 1,747 CPUs, Memory and SSDs

As shared by wccftech.com, Chinese authorities have announced that they have caught a driver carrying 1747 CPUs, memory sticks, SSDs and other components at the Hong Kong-China border crossing. All of these components had been hidden in a tray within the chassis of the car and wrapped in plastic and white paper. In total, the container contained 837 CPUs which were mostly 12th and 13th gen Intel chips, 900 memory sticks a mixture of Corsair DDR4 and DDR5 and 10 SSDs which from the images appear to be Kingston branded. This is among the many smuggling attempts that China faces for technology and all stems from the 13% VAT on goods imported into mainland China. Smuggling the goods, especially ones as costly as these components, can lead to high-profit margins for Chinese sellers so many like to take the risk. Additionally it is possible for these smugglers to be bailed out quite easily for a sum of cash.
