59% of People Claim They Could ‘Easily’ Quit Social Media

Quitting Social Media Is Easy
These days, most of us have at least, a bare minimum, of one social media account. I would say that it would be a fair average suggest that most internet users these days have somewhere between 2 to 3 social media accounts, depending of course, on what your definition of social media is.
Despite social media clearly being a highly integrated part of our lives these days, 59% of people believe that quitting it all would be ‘easy’.
What do they base that on?
Yes, in a report via CNET, following a general public survey in the US, 59% of people asked that that quitting social media would be easy. Frankly, I’m amazed that the figure is higher than 35%.
Admittedly, this figure is based on what people believe, rather than what they could actually do, but those asked are either very optimistic about their abilities or exceptionally naive about the role social media has in our lives now.
The results in depth
Of those surveyed, the statistics found are exceptionally interesting and I think highlight peoples ignorance of just how much of an impact pages such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram have on their lives. In the report the survey found;
- Only 14% believed it would be ‘very hard’ to quit social-media.
- 40% acknowledged social media is a problem to them.
- Again, only 28% said that giving up would cause them problems.
- 59% believing quitting would be ‘easy’.
Our thoughts?
I am absolutely astounded by these figures. The only place you would kind 60% of people who could easily quit social-media would be in an Amish village!
It does, however, perhaps indicate just how ignorant people have become to the subtlety in which social media has affected our lives.
What do you think? Is 59% really correct or is it a massive indication of peoples naivety? – Let us know in the comments!
