Someone Bought a PS4 Dev Kit with Content from a Closed Studio

Something pretty interesting happened during a recent bankruptcy auction, which included a PS4 Dev kit among other items. The kit in question was purchased by a Reddit user named kaneda2004, who discovered that he also got 800GB of content sitting behind an expired DevKit license. That’s some bonus, right? The content belongs to United Front Games, a company that had to close up shop in October. The PlayStation 4 development kit in question is actually a NEO dev kit, which means that it was used to create games for Sony’s new PlayStation PRO. Sadly, the content can’t be accessed by normal means, as the files were automatically encrypted when their license expired.

However, kaneda2004 asked for the assistance of Assembler Games, and one of their members will apparently try to extract these files and see what they were all about. If the files turn out to be useless, it’s no big deal, but if they do turn out to be something worthwhile, they’ll likely be preserved, as they might show off exactly what United Front wanted to achieve before it went out of business, and this could probably be an unfinished game concept. We’ll definitely keep you posted as we find out more.
