Sonic Forces was announced by Sega earlier this year. It gave every indication of being the return to form the much-maligned mascot needed.
The early indications suggested that Sonic Forces was going to be good, we even had high-hopes ourselves. Well, having finally released to a colossal ‘meh’ Sega have at least proved that they have a sense of humour. How? By including a popular sonic meme in the latest update to the game.
While on the subject of Sonic Forces, if you were looking for a good Sonic game, the recently released Sonic Mania is excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending the latter.
So which meme have Sega added? Well, it’s the amazing Sanic the Hedgehog creation. Added as a t-shirt for all playable characters in the game, Sega has finally acknowledged the meme which has done far better than their actual mascot in recent years.
According to KnowYourMeme, Sanic originated in a YouTube video from over 7 years ago. Thought to be a parody, the video portrayed itself as a ‘how to’ instructional video on drawing Sonic.
Bring all of your MS Paint nightmares to reality and accompanied by a distorted Green Hills track, the post quickly went viral. The inclusion of this t-shirt in the game would therefore seemingly represent the first time Sega has actually acknowledged the meme.
While it doesn’t detract from the highly mediocre game, it is, at the very least, amusing. Hopefully, the planned feature film will be better, then again, perhaps not.
Additionally, if this article has increased your Sonic the Hedgehog need, you can download the game for free on IOS or Android. At least we know Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was an awesome game.
