Sega fans have had a lot to be pleased about in recent months. A new Sonic game is coming, the company seems keen on revitalising old brands and there are even hushed rumours of consideration of a new console (entirely unconfirmed before someone shakes the click-bait stick at me). Well, for those fans of the blue hedge, there is a Vinyl album coming, Sonic Mania!
Yes, but this isn’t new. Well, the announcement is, but a game soundtrack getting a physical vinyl release isn’t. For example, we only reported a few weeks ago that classic FPS Quake was getting a vinyl release album.
I recall in the comments somebody said ‘what’s the point? who buys vinyl’. Well, the vinyl industry, despite a slump in the 90’s, has always been popular. Outlasting cassettes and even CDs, vinyl continues to grow.
Sonia Mania therefore clearly does have an audience and a highly interested one at that!
The product is sold containing a really nice sleeve with an attractively patterned vinyl disc. It is set to include some of the best-loved tracks from all of the classic sonic era.
For the budding DJ’s out there, this means you can slip a Green Hills Valley 2 into your mix.
The release has come from DATA DISCS who have obtained the rights to a significant portion of Sega’s classic back catalogue. They have released other albums including Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Shenmui. In addition, they have also released the Outrun soundtrack, which personally I think would be awesome to hear.
Sonia Mania represents another little victory for the blue hedgehog. With the franchise set to get a brand new video game release (one that looks good), this soundtrack is another step in the right direction.
The album can be viewed and bought on the website at this link. Pre-orders have sold out, but a further issue of the album will be coming.
To avoid ‘scalping’, DATA Disks does not say how many they will release, but popularity is bound to be high here. So get your blast processors ready or you could miss this blue blur!
