Sonnet Introduces Fusion R400 RAID USB 3.0 Rackmount Enclosure

Expanding your storage doesn’t have to be hard, and that includes rack-mounted solutions. Sonnet has introduced the R400 4-bay rack mounted RAID enclosure that connects as easy as with the built-in USB 3.0 interface. This allows you to hook up more storage with a single cable, and the configuration is just as easy.

The Fusion R400 features a high-performance internal storage controller that offers five drive configuration options: RAID 5, RAID 0, RAID 10, Span, and JBOD, without requiring additional hardware or software. Drive operation and health status indications are available at a glance with multicolor LEDs and setting the RAID mode is as easy as flicking a switch.

The data transfer speed is rated up to 240MB/s reading and 230MB/s writing, but that depends on your drives and configuration. The power supply can deliver 220W, which is a lot more than is needed for a device like this. It weighs approximately 6.8 kg and comes with a one-year warranty.

The fans included are said to be quiet and temperature-controlled, generally operating at a slow speed and only speeding up when really needed. The unit is compatible with Sonnet’s line of PCIe® and ExpressCard/34 USB 3.0 host controllers and supports Mac, Windows, and Linux computers. The Fusion R400 RAID USB 3.0 (FUS-R4BR5-0TB) is available now at an MSRP of $349.
