86.1m PlayStation 4’s Sold
You’d find it hard to argue that the PlayStation 4 has been a massive success for Sony. With it clearly winning the console war with Microsoft’s Xbox One, it will, of course, be interesting to see where they go from there.
In a report via COGconnected though, Sony has reported that the lifetime sales of the PS4 console have now topped over 86.1 million unit.
Comparative Terms
In comparison to other PlayStation consoles, this clearly shows that the PS4 has been a massive success. With it recently just topping the PS3 sales figures, it is, however, still a fair way off the sales figures for the PS1 (around 105m) and massively far away from the success of the PS2 (around 155m).
How High Will It Go?
Based on the expected release date of the next generation of consoles (likely at some point in 2020), the PS4 still has plenty of mileage. Despite that though, the limitations of the hardware are beginning to show. Despite that, I see no reason that while it might not reach the heights of the PS2, why it can’t topple the PS1 to take the 2nd slot.
In fairness to the figures, they have, of course, been boosted by recent updated releases. The slim version and Pro have undoubtedly played a small role in the recent boost to the sales.
It does, of course, give us a lot of confidence for what they will offer next.
