Despite the fact that it has now been 5-months since the PS5 was officially released, there are still a lot of people out there (myself included) who have yet to secure their very own console. The problem has largely been two-fold, with already limited supply levels being compounded by some very cynical scalpers gobbling up all they can in order to turn a quick profit. – While the PS5 situation doesn’t be looking to improve anytime in the near future, however, following a report via TechSpot, Sony has at least said that they are doing their best to ramp up production as much as possible!
Speaking in an interview, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) President Jim Ryan has said that while the company is doing their absolute best to try and prioritize manufacturing of the components necessary for their console, there are still a number of key factors preventing them from pumping out more of the systems. These include the continued global chipset shortage, as well as the impact COVID-19, has had on manufacturing and shipping.
Despite overtures that the company is doing their best (and we genuinely believe they are), the short-term news remains more than a little bleak. Put simply, until at least Q3 this year (and possibly even 2022 if this chipset situation worsens). I think you’re either going to have to be willing to spend more than you want (and certainly above MSRP) or get insanely lucky in finding one in stock with a general retailer.
