Sony has recently raised the price of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller across multiple regions without an official announcement. The price hike, first noticed on September 9, 2024, affects a variety of color options for the popular controller, with the standard white and other colors like Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, and Cosmic Red now priced at $74.99, up from $69.99. More premium colors, such as Sterling Silver and Cobalt Blue, have seen their price increase to $79.99.
The increase in the U.S. has also been mirrored globally, with the United Kingdom seeing a £5 increase and Australia experiencing a $10 rise. This move follows a pattern from Sony, which recently adjusted pricing for the PlayStation 5 console in Japan.
Retailers such as PlayStation Direct, Amazon, Target, and Best Buy have already adjusted their pricing to reflect the new rates. This development has raised concerns among gamers, especially with rumors of a PlayStation 5 Pro announcement on the horizon. A presentation hosted by PlayStation 4’s lead architect, Mark Cerny, is expected to take place on September 10, potentially revealing more about the Pro version of the console.
While the controller price hike might seem small, some consumers worry this could mark the beginning of further increases in PlayStation accessories or even the console itself.
