The new generation of consoles may be coming at the end of this year but that certainly doesn’t spell the end for the PlayStation 3 and it could live on for quite some time into the PS4’s existence as Sony captures that lower market price point and clears existing stock inventories of PS3 materials. The new PlayStation 3 Super Slim model, referring to codenames CECH-4205B and CECH-4205C, is expected to debut by the end of the year. Kotaku reports that the new PlayStation 3 model will have smaller internals, will have lower power consumption and will run with a lot better cooling.
Kotaku bases its claims on certification documents forwarded by Sony in South Korea for two new CECH-4205B and CECH-4205C variants. Sony also forward a CECH-4200 variant in its home country Japan. Despite all the improvements and changes the new model could use the same exterior as the current PS3 Super Slim console so don’t expect anything too radical in terms of changes.
