Sony is preparing for the holiday season shopping boom by instigating a worldwide $50 cut in the price tag of its PlayStation 3 consoles; leaving the 160GB PlayStation3 at $250 and 320GB version at $300. The United States and Europe will witness the price cuts immediately as Amazon.com has already updated its pricing while Japan will have to wait a few days. As a further incentive for buyers the 320GB $300 PlayStation 3 will come with the game “Infamous” for free along with a free 30 day trial for the PlayStation Plus service.
Sony has also (perhaps in response to Nintendo slashing the 3DS price by $80 last month and the Wii being reduced by $50 a month before that) brought the price of its PlayStation Portable down to just 99 Euros. The new PSP E-1000 will launch in Europe only for 99 Euros, if successful plans to bring it to North America will follow. This also comes ahead of the launch of PS Vita which many analysts are calling a disaster in the making. However, overall it now seems Sony has one over on Microsoft the 160GB PS3 is equivalent to price to the 4GB Xbox 360 and the PS3 has the superior Blu Ray player over the Xbox 360 optical drive. Whilst the 320GB PS3 equates in price to a 250GB Xbox 360 but the 360 lacks Blu Ray support, the free copy of Infamous and the free trial to PlayStation Plus equivalent. Could Sony’s resurrection be imminent?
