Sony Reportedly Moving On From PS VR2

Sony Interactive Entertainment launched the PlayStation VR2 last year, but recent reports suggest the company is reducing its support for the platform. According to Android Central, Sony is cutting funding for PSVR2 games, with only two first-party titles currently in development. This news raises concerns about the future of the PS5’s VR system.

Reasons Behind the Cutbacks

Sony’s decision to scale back on PSVR2 support isn’t entirely surprising. Earlier this year, production of the PSVR2 was paused due to a high number of unsold units. The system, praised for its features and technical performance, struggled with sales primarily because of its $550 price tag. Additionally, the lack of new games has been an ongoing issue, with no first-party releases in 2024. The closure of two VR studios, including the developer behind “Blood & Truth,” further emphasizes the challenges facing PSVR2.

Sony Reportedly Moving On From PS VR2

Sony plans to release a PSVR2 PC adapter next month, potentially broadening the market for the headset. However, with the reported reduction in investment for new VR games, the future of PSVR2 remains uncertain. There are still some notable titles on the horizon, such as Skydance’s Behemoth, but the lack of first-party support casts a shadow over the platform’s prospects.

As Sony navigates these challenges, the gaming community watches closely to see if the company can revive interest in PSVR2 or if the platform will gradually fade away.
