Sony Reveals Playstation 5 Pro

Sony has officially unveiled the PS5 Pro, which promises to deliver significantly more power than the original PlayStation 5. Announced by Mark Cerny, PlayStation’s system architect, the new console will cost $700 and is set to launch globally on November 7, 2024. Preorders begin on September 26.

The PS5 Pro aims to double the power of the PS5, boasting an upgraded GPU with 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory, enabling up to 45% faster rendering for a smoother gaming experience. The system also includes 2TB of SSD storage, a significant increase from the original model. However, the PS5 Pro will not include a disc drive, which can be purchased separately for $80.

Powerful Performance and New Features

Mark Cerny highlighted the console’s ability to eliminate the need for gamers to choose between Performance mode and Fidelity mode. “Performance mode is chosen 75% of the time, but with the PS5 Pro, we want to remove that decision entirely,” Cerny said. The system will use AI-upscaling technology, known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, and improved ray tracing for enhanced visual quality.

The PS5 Pro is designed to support high-demand games like Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with these titles carrying the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. In addition, a new feature called PS5 Pro Game Boost will enhance the performance of over 8,500 compatible PS4 and PS5 games.

Sony continues its tradition of offering “Pro” versions of its consoles, with the PS5 Pro priced higher than its predecessor, reflecting the substantial power upgrades.
