Sony has today revealed its newest controller kit designed to enable gamers with disabilities to enjoy games with much more comfort.
The new access controller for the PlayStation 5 has been five years in the making with input from various accessibility organizations and experts to create a versatile kit enabling disabled gamers to enjoy their games for longer and with more comfort. The controller takes a configurable approach allowing for the buttons to be mapped to adjust stick settings, toggle commands on/off or disable specific buttons altogether. The controller is capable of being mapped with up to 30 control profiles allowing the user to have profiles for specific games and uses.
On top of the button mappings, the button caps themselves can be altered with 5 different cap variations depicted in the image below. The variations include wide flat (C), overhang (D), pillow (E), flat (F), and curve (G), all of these caps can be fitted with button cap tags to depict what the button does. Alongside these caps, there are also 3 different caps for the joystick including ball (H), dome (I) and standard (J).
This is great news for disabled gamers who deserve these controllers to help them enjoy the games that we all enjoy. The PS5 Access Controller will be available globally on December 6th with pre-orders starting July 21st for the following MSRP: $89.99 USD/$119.99 CAD/¥12,980 JPY/€89.99/£79.99.
