Sony Signs 10-Year Deal With Microsoft To Keep Call of Duty on PlayStation

Sony has today signed a deal with Microsoft to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the success with the FTC concerning Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Sony Signs Deal With Microsoft

As reported by CNBC, only has signed a binding, 10-year agreement with Microsoft to ensure that Activision’s Call of Duty stays on the PlayStation. This agreement comes following Microsoft’s success against the FTC for their acquisition of Activision Blizzard effectively cementing the deal with the only hurdle now being the UK’s CMA. The deal won’t be over until an agreement can be made with the CMA which is likely as negotiations are open and on the table. Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer made the announcement on Twitter stating;

“We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games.”

10 More Years of COD on PlayStation

This is good news for PlayStation fans as previously Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony’s interactive entertainment division, had expressed concerns over competition with this deal so clearly he has been swayed into agreeing to this deal. Personally, this deal doesn’t come as a surprise since PlayStation is a huge market for Call of Duty and Microsoft would be silly to drop it even if it did prompt more Xbox sales.
