Sony has delivered some very impressive financial results for Q2 of 2013. Notably they have managed to really step up their game with their Xperia smartphone division and shipped an impressive 9.6 million smartphones in the period April through June, or in other words in Q2. 9.6 million represents a 30% year on year increase for Sony in terms of the number of Xperia smartphones shipped.
Sony are claiming their highest sales yet and they claim this has been driven by high sales of models such as the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL. The flagship Xperia Z smartphone will be given a new addition when Sony launches the mammoth Xperia Z Ultra 6.4 inch smartphone later on this year.
“Sony has reported its quarterly results for the three months to 30 June 2013. The good news is that strong sales of smartphones has helped the company to record a $35m net profit, compared to a loss in the same period last year. The number of Xperia units sold during the quarter was 9.6 million, the highest ever smartphone shipments for Sony during a single quarter and a 30% increase over the same period last year. This has no doubt been helped by the success of the Xperia Z and, in Japan, the Xperia A.” stated the Xperia Blog.
