Sony Has Sold a Staggering 25.3 Million PlayStation 4 Consoles

Microsoft’s ill-advised strategy when selecting the Xbox One’s components and launch DRM dramatically altered the uptake of Sony’s PlayStation 4. Many consumers became angry with Microsoft’s arrogant management, TV focus and high launch price. This helped the PlayStation 4 to become remarkably popular and dominate the sales numbers for this generation so far.

According to the latest data provided by Sony, the PlayStation 4 has already surpassed 25.3 million sold units. SCE Worldwide Studios VP Michael Denny told GamesIndustry.biz:

“I don’t think there’s a better time to buy into PlayStation – PS4 particularly,”

“Our installed base now is well over 25 million. That gives us a massive community of gamers, supported by a lot of new community features. We’ve got great games out there, more coming through. We’re looking forward to 2016, it’s an exciting time.”

It seems the Xbox division has already accepted it could be difficult to overturn the PlayStation 4’s monumental success story. Phil Spencer discussed making the experience better for existing players rather than focusing on matching Sony’s system sales. Clearly, Microsoft is desperate to sell more units, but even the most loyal Xbox fan, is aware of the current market.

While the PlayStation 4’s core line-up is fairly limited at the moment, history suggests there should be a number of intriguing exclusives on the way.
