Sony has announced an immediate update to remove an unintentional racial slur found in the artwork of its upcoming game, Stellar Blade. The offensive language resulted from an unfortunate placement of graffiti next to the in-game ‘R Shop,’ forming a racially insensitive phrase.
The company stressed that the inclusion of the slur was not intentional and confirmed that the graffiti would be removed in the game’s Day 1 patch. This swift response comes after players noticed the issue during the game’s review process.
Sony’s Commitment to Inclusivity
In their commitment to ensuring a respectful gaming environment, Sony reassured that future print runs of the game would also exclude the controversial artwork. The PlayStation 5 exclusive is scheduled for release on April 26, with Sony and the game’s developer, Shift Up, hoping to avoid any further controversy.
Stellar Blade’s Anticipated Launch
Despite the hiccup, anticipation for Stellar Blade remains high. The game has been praised for its mechanically satisfying action and stands as a promising addition to the action genre, offering both a challenge and a refreshing take on familiar gameplay dynamics.
Sony’s proactive steps highlight their ongoing efforts to address community concerns promptly and maintain a positive gaming experience for all players.
As gamers and critics await the official launch, the focus now shifts to the game’s reception and the effectiveness of Sony’s corrective measures in fostering an inclusive community around its latest title.
