Sony unveils HMZ-T2 head-mounted display, launches in Japan next month

Sony’s first-generation HMZ-T1 head-mounted display didn’t really do too well, it was a niche product, and I personally think these types of devices will always be niche, until someone does something different – like the Oculus Rift.

But, the Japanese company is still pushing forward, announcing the HMZ-T2. Sony’s second-generation head-mounted display will launch in Japan on October 13, with the same specs as its predecessor, but with some nice upgrades. We’re looking at it weighing less, sporting a redesigned head strap which should make it more comfortable, ear buds instead of headphones, 24p cinema support, and a “Clear” pandel drive mode for fast-moving content.

There’s no current pricing or launch details outside of Japan, but we’re looking at the equivalent of US$894 or so. Sony unveiled the swish-looking headset at IFA just recently in Berlin, and will show it off again at the Tokyo Game Show.
