Sony Unveils Portable Xperia Touch Projector

Sony is launching an impressive – albeit pricey – new portable projector with touch detection. Particularly, the Xperia Touch is a 1366×768 ultra-short-throw projector; what that means is any nearby flat surface can become an interactable display. For instance, users can turn a table into a piano using the 100-lumen projector, as demonstrated below.

Uses, though, extend beyond. Furthermore, the Touch can be used as an extended smartphone or tablet display. The projected display, hence, can become a videocall screen or IoT interface. In fact, Sony describes the projector as “the future of communication”. The projector includes a custom interface which displays information such as time, date, notifications, and weather. Also, the hardware is supported by numerous Google Play apps.
The Touch features 32GB of storage and 3GB RAM. Sony is yet to reveal the Touch’s processor, though. In addition, the Android-based projector supports 80-inch image projection, 10-point multi-touch, and two-way stereo speakers. However, it’ll cost you close to $2,000 and possesses a disappointing one-hour battery life. Thus, not great for use beyond a power socket.
