Sony Updates PS Portal to Enhance Cloud Streaming With Many New Features
Sony has announced a new update for PlayStation Portal, the remote player for PS5. The details were shared in a long article on the official PS Blog.
What’s New in the PS Portal Update
Sony reminds players that they can now play PS Plus Premium titles via cloud streaming (in beta) without needing a PlayStation 5. This update is designed to improve that experience.
First, players will be able to sort games in the cloud catalog for easier access. There will be options to organize games by recent additions, alphabetical order, or by release date.
Another new feature is the ability to use the Create button during cloud gaming to capture screenshots and video clips (up to 1080p, maximum 3 minutes). These captures will be saved directly to the cloud, and you can access them via the PlayStation App. Keep in mind that these clips will be deleted after 14 days, so be sure to download them if you want to keep them.
New Features to Improve Cloud Streaming
The update also introduces a queue system. If the streaming server is full, players will now see an estimated wait time before they can start streaming their game.
Additionally, new pause functions have been added, although they may not always be available (like during online multiplayer). These functions include:
- Gameplay will pause when you open the PS Portal quick menu. You can open the quick menu by pressing the PS button, swiping left from the top right corner of your screen, or tapping the quick menu icon from the status bar.
- When you press the power button once, PS Portal will be put into rest mode and the game will be paused. You can un-pause and get back to your game play by pressing the power button again. If PS Portal remains in rest mode for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will be disconnected.
- Gameplay will also pause when a system error message is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Another addition is the inactive notification. If you don’t play for ten minutes, a notification will appear saying that you will be kicked out of cloud streaming in 60 seconds.
Finally, a feedback screen has been added, allowing users to rate their gaming experience.
